Yesterday was my mother's 65th birthday, so I feel compelled to write a lil something about her. I could write pages upon pages, that would without a doubt have you laughing so hard you'd bust a lung. But she would kill me if I took to this blog to write a tell-all on her quirks, and 'Glor-isms.'
If I could think of one word to describe my mother, it would have to be 'glee'. In fact, she is so full of glee that it has led those closest to her to peg her as "Glee club Glor", and of course the most infamous name of all, "Good Time Glor." My mom is ALWAYS up for a good time. Be it chatting until the wee hours of the morning with her son-in-law, joyfully snapping her fingers to the tune of 'Jingle Bells' at our family Christmas Eve shin-digs, or trying to spice up my appearance by telling me to "put a lil' rouge on." I can hear her voice ringing in my ear as I type this "come on Jess, get a bit of spunk, put on a blouse, get some colour in your face!" Bless her heart, the woman just wants me to have a good time, and look good while doing it!
Of course, mom never ceases to amaze us or make us laugh with her love of chit chat and meaningful heart to hearts. I head back home for a visit in the summer with hopes of spending some quality time with my best friend, Laura, but lo and behold Glor sets her sights on the bff and sucks her right in. They spend hours just talking about life, love, and future aspirations. Critiquing wedding dresses "I wouldn't say it is beautiful, I would say it is more whimsical..." (as this point I am about a bottle and half in on the red wine, trying to unsuccessfully get a word in).
Throw my cousin Cosmo into the mix, and the twinkle in Glor's eye becomes a thousand times brighter. If she got word that he was in town, rest assured she would throw on that apron, whip up some stuffed peppers, and toss a freshly baked pie in the oven... all in the name of Cosmo. Of course, upon his arrival she would literally sit at the other end of the table and simply watch him eat, undoubtedly making him feel even more awkward than he already is. She'd start off the conversation "So, where's your friend Nate? When are you going to set him up with Jess?" At this point in my life, I was going through a major quarter-life crisis, living at home with my parents, and going back to school for a 5th year, whilst crashing on my first year cousin's dorm room floor twice a week. In a word, I was mortified.
But what mother's do this? Not many, I will tell you that much! As much as we all laugh at my mom, we love her and we are all so thankfull for the entertainment that she unknowingly provides. She is the heart of our family, and I know that deep down us four kids would be lucky to turn out like her. She is one in a million, and I am happy that out of all the moms in the world, I got Good Time Glor!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY!!!!!
XOXO

Jupp and Sharks
My latest fabulous find goes by the name of Jupp. Jupp Baron Kerckerinic, shark expert extrodinaire. He is one of the leading advocates of ocean and shark preservation, and has devoted his life to travelling the world so that he could accomplish his sole mission of rasining awareness for the prevention of illegal poaching and finning. At this point, I feel that it is neceassary for me to brag to you that Jupp has personally emailed me a total of three times with the intention of thanking me for my support, and telling me that i am "wonderful."
No Jupp, YOU are wonderful!
I <3 Jupp.
I have always been infatuated by sharks. Oddly enough, as a child who was scared of literally everything (rocks, snow, kidnappers, blunt objects, giant guinea pig spirits, being pulled across flat land in a toboggan...) I was never particularily afraid of swimming in shark friendly waters. Sharks are my best friends. We just get each other. How could someone hate something that is so obviously magically mysterious? They have been around since before dinosaurs. I kid you not, they have actually been on this earth for millions of years, without so much as a change in tooth count due to evolution. Doesn't this excite you?!!?
As I bring this post to an end, I feel compelled to thank sharks for bringing Jupp into my life. And of course, I must thank Jupp for doing everything that he is so brilliantly doing to save my very best friends.

My 2 Most Fabulous Finds!
Guinea pigs are the very essence of my being. They are the reason I live. With every beat of my heart a Guinea Pig somewhere in the world is purring, and at the end of the day when I crawl into my bed and lay my head down on my pillow, I can fall asleep with a smile on my face.
Theadora and Peach (aka, the Saavy Cavies) came into my life one fateful day in July 2010. My ex-boyfriend had just moved to Alberta and left a void in my heart that I knew only a Guinea Pig could fill. I only wanted one, but God sent me two. Whoever said pigs can’t fly was wrong, because I have two Guinea Pig angels living with me, and they have flown directly into my heart.
I am The Guinea Pig whisperer. I can communicate with these magical creatures using only my eyes. For example, I just spent 5 minutes staring into Thea’s eyes, and it was revealed to me her desire to meet her birth parents. A day I knew would come, just not so soon.
A Guinea Pig will always be there to lick your lips after you eat a piece of honeydew melon. A Guinea Pig will always lick away the single salty tear that falls from your eye after your first heartbreak. And a Guinea Pig will, without fail, nuzzle up under your chin to keep you company when you are feeling just a little bit lonely. Thea and Peach have been two of the greatest joys of my life. In fact, they have been two of THE most fabulous finds I have come across in my life so far.

now THAT was a tall glass of water....
I have been catching myself having day dreams about time travel. If only I could go back to that decade I love so much just so I could be a cast member in Saturday Night Live. A hilarious, over the top, yet effortlessly gorgeous woman who gets to work next to the beloved Cornelius Crane Chase. I would gently graze against his arm, or "accidentally" expose my left shoulder and top it all off with a kiss.

This is Just the Beginning!
I suppose you could say that the nerd who lives in my little beating heart gets overly excited about the fabulous things she finds in the most fabulous little places. Nothing makes me more giddy than raiding the 50 cent rack at the thrift store and walking out with an arm full of blouses, and sparkly shorts. Or checking out craigslist only to find two adorable Guinea Pigs looking for a loving home. Or wandering into a bargain store only to find a ceramic cookie jar with a little squirrel on top, holding a nut. These are some one of a kind finds my friends, and I am nothing less than tickled pink to share them with YOU!
I stumbled upon this Fabulous Find while searching for some Groupie Inspiration with my friend, Emily. The 70's could possibly be the the coolest decade there ever was, and ever will be. They just don't make girls like this anymore, do they...
