Good Time Glor

Yesterday was my mother's 65th birthday, so I feel compelled to write a lil something about her. I could write pages upon pages, that would without a doubt have you laughing so hard you'd bust a lung. But she would kill me if I took to this blog to write a tell-all on her quirks, and 'Glor-isms.'

If I could think of one word to describe my mother, it would have to be 'glee'. In fact, she is so full of glee that it has led those closest to her to peg her as "Glee club Glor", and of course the most infamous name of all, "Good Time Glor." My mom is ALWAYS up for a good time. Be it chatting until the wee hours of the morning with her son-in-law, joyfully snapping her fingers to the tune of 'Jingle Bells' at our family Christmas Eve shin-digs, or trying to spice up my appearance by telling me to "put a lil' rouge on." I can hear her voice ringing in my ear as I type this "come on Jess, get a bit of spunk, put on a blouse, get some colour in your face!" Bless her heart, the woman just wants me to have a good time, and look good while doing it!

Of course, mom never ceases to amaze us or make us laugh with her love of chit chat and meaningful heart to hearts. I head back home for a visit in the summer with hopes of spending some quality time with my best friend, Laura, but lo and behold Glor sets her sights on the bff and sucks her right in. They spend hours just talking about life, love, and future aspirations. Critiquing wedding dresses "I wouldn't say it is beautiful, I would say it is more whimsical..." (as this point I am about a bottle and half in on the red wine, trying to unsuccessfully get a word in).

Throw my cousin Cosmo into the mix, and the twinkle in Glor's eye becomes a thousand times brighter. If she got word that he was in town, rest assured she would throw on that apron, whip up some stuffed peppers, and toss a freshly baked pie in the oven... all in the name of Cosmo. Of course, upon his arrival she would literally sit at the other end of the table and simply watch him eat, undoubtedly making him feel even more awkward than he already is. She'd start off the conversation "So, where's your friend Nate? When are you going to set him up with Jess?" At this point in my life, I was going through a major quarter-life crisis, living at home with my parents, and going back to school for a 5th year, whilst crashing on my first year cousin's dorm room floor twice a week. In a word, I was mortified.

But what mother's do this? Not many, I will tell you that much! As much as we all laugh at my mom, we love her and we are all so thankfull for the entertainment that she unknowingly provides. She is the heart of our family, and I know that deep down us four kids would be lucky to turn out like her. She is one in a million, and I am happy that out of all the moms in the world, I got Good Time Glor!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY!!!!!
XOXO
